Snow Hike

Sneeuberg, West Coast DC, South Africa
Snow hike began and we first spent the first two nights at Cederberg cottages as there was a storm expected to hit. With the promise of fresh snow, we headed up to the Sneeuberg hut on Monday morning. The scene was stunning with snow-topped peaks, narrow valleys and small mounds of snow, just big enough for one lucky scout (or scouter) to gather up in a snowball and hurled at an unsuspecting victim. The air was fresh and icy as we hiked the next day to the saddle of Sneeuberg and to Maltese cross. That night the stars were out in their sparkling brilliance and made the cold nights a pleasure to experience. The next day we hiked down to Kromrivier and made the traditional roast as a reward for the hard work of climbing the mountain. It, as always, was a magical experience and we can’t wait to do it again next year.
