Directions and route details
The route starts at the Theresa Avenue parking lot in Camp's Bay, so we suggest that you meet at RBHS beforehand to share lifts and travel in convoy. Please remember that you need to be there by 15:30 on the day of departure, so allow for traffic time and don't leave until your entire group is there - rather start late than split up.
The route up will be clear to the boys, and all guides will know precisely where they are going. The boys follow the Jeep Track for a while before getting to the start of the Kasteelspoort trail, and then follow a clear path to the top of the mountain. While this is one of the easier routes up the mountain and is only expected to take them 2-3 hours, it is stressed that the boys will still need to be relatively fit to find it enjoyable, so please ensure that they are prepared for their time on the mountain and that they pack as lightly as possible. |
After spending the night in the hut, the boys will descend on the Kirstenbosch side of the mountain via Nursery Ravine. Again, the routes will all be well-marked and the guides all know the way down, but it is on the boys to ensure that they pack up and leave on time in the morning. Nursery Ravine comes out in Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, so the boys should be down in the parking lot by 12:00. We advise that you pre-arrange lifts so that not all parents have to meet there, but boys have been requested to have at least one charged cellphone per group so that they can let their lifts know if they are running late or early.
